A pathway is a set of training modules assigned together, like a new-starter induction. It holds no content of its own: each module keeps its own lessons, progress and expiry, so a module someone has already done elsewhere counts in the pathway straight away.
A new pathway starts as a draft. You add modules to it, save it, then publish it. Only a published pathway can be assigned to people.
Creating and editing a pathway needs permission to create training. Publishing it needs permission to publish training.
Step 1
Open the Pathways tab
In the side menu, click Training, then the Pathways tab at the top of the library.
Step 2
Start a new pathway
Click New pathway and enter a name people will recognise when it is assigned to them.
Step 3
Say what it is for
Add a line under What it is for. Learners see it before they start.
Step 4
Choose whether order matters
Do them in order is on by default. A required module then stays listed but locked until the one before it is done. Optional modules never lock. Turn it off to let people do the modules in any order.
Step 5
Create the draft
Click Create draft. The pathway is saved as a draft with nothing in it, nothing is assigned yet, and its own screen opens so you can add modules straight away.
Step 6
Add the modules
Click Add a module and pick one. Repeat for each module. The number beside each one is the order they are done in. To change the order, drag a row, or use its menu to move it up or down. The same menu can make a module optional or remove it.
Step 7
Save
Click Save on the bar at the bottom. Then click Review and publish at the top, which opens the Settings tab.
Step 8
Publish
Check the Status card, click Publish, and confirm. Publishing makes the pathway assignable. It does not change any of the modules in it.
Step 9
What you have now
The pathway shows as Published. You can now assign it from its Assignments tab, or with Assign in the Pathways list.
Step 10
If it won't publish
The button at the top says how many things to fix, and the Settings tab lists them. A pathway needs at least one module, and every module in it must be published — a draft module in a pathway stops it being published. Unsaved changes also hold it back, because publishing acts on the saved pathway.
Step 11
Changing a published pathway
A pathway has no versions. Saving a change to a published pathway changes it for everyone assigned to it straight away, so the app asks you to confirm first. To retire one, Archive it: it stops reaching learners, and every assignment and completion it caused is kept.
